In Memory of a Unique Artist
The Svavar Pétur Memorial Fund was established with the goal of preserving the memory of a unique artist. Svavar Pétur passed away from cancer on September 29th, 2022, at the age of only 46. Svavar Pétur was best known as the musician Prins Póló. He was a versatile and enterprising musician, designer, visual artist, food producer, entrepreneur, and farmer who inspired many people with his work, ideas, courage, and daring.
Allocation 2024
Ægir Sindri Bjarnason received the first grant from the Svavar Pétur Eysteinsson Memorial Fund, which was awarded at the Hammond Festival in Djúpivogur on April 26th, Svavar Pétur's birthday. Ægir Sindri applied for a grant to operate the music venue R6013 on Ingólfsstræti, where various musical genres are celebrated. The fund's board proudly supported the project, seeing it as an exciting entrepreneurial endeavor with a clear vision to strengthen grassroots music activities and unite musicians of all generations.
Fund's Objectives
The fund's objective is to support artists and entrepreneurs who work in the same spirit as Svavar Pétur.
The fund's board has worked diligently on financing the fund in recent years, including a collaboration with 66°Norður in creating a fleece version of Prinsinn's Autumn Sweater. The sweater was designed by Svavar Pétur in collaboration with 66°Norður. The Memorial Fund's board also organized the Festival of the Court: Prins Póló's Birthday Concert. Many musicians performed there, donating their work for the cause. Furthermore, the Court Running Group was formed, where several brave runners have run and raised pledges for the cause in the Reykjavík Marathon.
Applications can be submitted here.
We are extremely grateful to all those who have contributed their work to the fund, donated money, and/or participated in all these projects.
We have already begun planning a major fundraising project for the fund this year, which we look forward to sharing more about later. And, of course, the Memorial Fund will once again be represented in the Reykjavík Marathon this summer.
