Havarí takes another U-turn
Dear friends and supporters of Havarí
We're starting the new year by taking possession of a new and larger space for Havarí in Skeifan. We're not moving in yet, though; there's a bit of work to be done first.
Since its inception, Havarí has taken on various forms; a kind of umbrella for its owners, myself, Berglind Häsler, and the late Svavar Pétur Eysteinsson. Havarí has been a record store, an event space, a gallery, a food production facility, a concert venue, a guesthouse, a record label, and much, much more. It has expanded and contracted according to circumstances, been in the countryside and in the city. After Svavar Pétur passed away in 2022, I have been fully occupied with managing the extensive legacy he left behind — and that work is by no means finished. In consultation with our children and closest relatives, I decided to continue operating Havarí, to keep Svavar Pétur's memory alive and allow people to continue enjoying his work.
We have done so — and will continue to do so.
And then there's this boundless need for change that has always characterized us at Havarí: to create something new, to work with creative people, never to stagnate. Now, once again, it's time for changes.
Just like when Havarí first opened in Austurstræti in 2009, the space is partly a blank canvas.
After the move, it will be possible to:
* temporarily rent spaces for quality goods that fit Havarí
* bring used items, furniture, and objects for temporary consignment
* host small concerts and set up exhibitions
* rent the space outside opening hours for, e.g., workshops
The goal is to create a platform for all sorts of great, ever-changing spaces that will be enjoyable to visit and draw inspiration from.
All of this will become clearer in the coming weeks and months — but it will, of course, never be completely clear. That wouldn't be in the spirit of Havarí.
Until then, you can send me an inquiry at havari@havari.is
But first, it's time to roll up our sleeves and get to work!
Thank you for your support <3

Dear friends and supporters of Havarí!
We’re starting the new year with the keys to a new and bigger space for Havarí. We’re not moving in just yet — there’s a bit of work to do first.
Since the beginning, Havarí has taken many forms; a kind of hat for its owners, me, Berglind Häsler, and the late Svavar Pétur Eysteinsson. Over the years it has been a record store, an event space, art gallery, food production, a concert venue, a guesthouse, a label, and more. After Svavar Pétur passed away in 2022, I’ve been working to care for and carry forward the legacy he left behind — and that work is far from finished. Together with our children and close family and friends, I decided to keep Havarí going, to honour his memory and keep his work alive for others to enjoy.
And we will continue to do so.
Havarí has also always been driven by a restless need to change, to create something new, to collaborate with creative people, and never stand still. So — now it’s time for another shift.
Just like when Havarí first opened in Austurstræti in Reykjavík in 2009, the new space is partly a blank canvas.
After the move, it will be possible to:
-
rent a spot temporarily for carefully chosen goods that fit Havarí
-
bring used items, furniture, and objects for temporary consignment
-
host small concerts and exhibitions
-
rent the space outside opening hours for workshops or courses
More details will follow in the coming weeks and months — though it will never be completely clear. That wouldn’t be in the spirit of Havarí.

Now: sleeves up and into the workwear!
Thank you for the support <3
