Egill Logi hlýtur styrk úr Minningarsjóði Svavars Péturs Eysteinssonar

Egill Logi receives a grant from Svavar Pétur Eysteinsson's Memorial Fund

Egill Logi Jónasson, known by his artist name Drengurinn Fengurinn, will receive a one million ISK grant from the Svavar Pétur Eysteinsson Memorial Fund this year, to work on the project Dreamboy Syndicate.

Dreamboy Syndicate encompasses all of Egill Logi's artistic creations. He lives and works in Akureyri. Egill is a highly prolific artist, engaged in both visual arts and music, and has released numerous albums. The project also includes printmaking, music publishing, concert organizing, a recording studio, Nordic collaborations, and more.

Egill describes his creative process: “I find it important to let the work speak for itself, and therefore I work a lot with just letting things happen. I do that to get ahead of self-doubt. What characterizes my art and music is perhaps that I don't necessarily work on pieces until I consider them perfect. I have tried that, but then you often end up getting stuck in insecurity and perhaps don't produce anything. I believe there is a growing desire for human and raw work in an age of artificial intelligence and perfection. Computers are perfect, people are flawed, and that is beautiful.”

The board of the Svavar Pétur Eysteinsson Memorial Fund proudly supports this project, with nearly forty applications received this year. The board's reasoning states: The project is a pioneering endeavor driven by great momentum, vision, and a clear outlook. The project is also well-defined and has a clear plan.

The Svavar Pétur Memorial Fund was established in 2023 with the goal of preserving the memory of a unique artist, as Svavar Pétur passed away from cancer on September 29, 2022. Svavar Pétur was best known as the musician Prins Póló. He was an exceptionally energetic, hardworking, versatile, and enterprising musician, visual artist, designer, food producer, entrepreneur, and farmer who inspired many with his work, ideas, courage, and daring.

The fund's objective is to support artists and entrepreneurs who work in a similar spirit to Svavar Pétur. The fund's board has diligently worked on its financing through numerous projects.

In collaboration with 66°Norður, a fleece version of Prinsinn's Autumn Sweater was made. The sweater was designed by Svavar Pétur in collaboration with 66°Norður, and profits from its sale were dedicated to the fund. The fund's board also organized the Feast of the Court: Prins Póló's Anniversary Concerts, where numerous musicians performed and volunteered their work for the cause. The Court's Running Group was also formed, with brave runners running and collecting pledges in the Íslandsbanki Reykjavík Marathon. And of course, there will be another run for the Memorial Fund in the Reykjavík Marathon this summer.

The organizers of the Memorial Fund are extremely grateful to everyone who has contributed their work to the fund, donated money, and/or participated in all these projects.
